Hello Fellow Foodies!
Thank you for following Hunters Healthy Kitchen via email subscription. With the new year I decided to re-write my About Me page and update the information. While doing this I thought it would be nice to share with you – my readers- a little information about me! This is a space for me to document my healthy culinary creations (for the most part). I am passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and believe everything in moderation.
Now I dream of eating gourmet dinners and drinking good coffee.
As a young girl I was exposed to fine foods, my Grandma’s cooking, Mom’s love of food & fitness, and restaurants. I also had the pleasure of living in Napa Valley, CA for 2 years where my love of food only grew. The food in Napa is truly unbelievable. This is partly because many of the restaurant chefs come from the Culinary Institute which is located in St. Helena, a great place to visit and try some food. Napa is all about fresh and local food, often farm to table, that is meant to inspire people. This is where I learned to love what food has to offer.
Eating healthy was not always an easy task for me. As a child I was overweight and spent much of my days over eating as well as snacking on sweets. Although my mother was a life coach in New York City who helped people lose weight through hypnosis she never pressured me to diet or told me that I was overweight. Eventually my habits began to change and I learned the word moderation, and as I grew the weight came off. I still have a sweet tooth (thank Dad) but now understand there needs to be balance.
This does not mean you won’t find butter, sugar, flour etc. in my recipes. Because, you will. However, when possible I do my best to cut down on the butter and substitute sugarfor natural options such as honey or agave nectar. I do not believe in low-fat or processed versions of the real thing – have butter not margarine, which can be loaded with preservatives.
So, what is moderation?
